A space to work

The Market Studios was established in December 2007 by curator/ artists, Claire Behan, Deirdre Morrissey and artist Monica Flynn. Following completion of the MA Visual Arts Practices, IADT 2007 and wishing to continue the peer support network that had developed during this period the trio leased a premises in the heart of the Markets area of Dublin and brought several colleagues along with them. The Market Studios provide artists, writers and curators with a productive, engaging environment in which to meet & work and it intends to foster exchange between these various visual art disciplines.

A space to show

The studios also encompass a exhibition & project space UNIT H, devoted to developing a commissioned programme of previously unseen work by contemporary, international artists as well as a creating a platform for a variety of events initiated by a dynamic network of Irish, visual art practitioners.

A space for exchange

While serving its residents The Market Studios is also eager to establish itself as a locus for other artists to gather and engage with a programme of screenings, discussions and workshops. Immediate plans include film screenings, life drawing classes and a proposed Salon event hosted by the writer Jennie Guy.

In the coming years The Market Studios aspires to developing a coherent identity for itself, its programme and its members and to develop as a creative space.
